Trial postponed in Provo arson case

A judge has allowed a postponement of trial for a Provo woman accused of starting an apartment fire that killed two people and injured a third.

Yvette Kimber is accused of intentionally starting a fire in a Provo apartment complex that killed Karen Murray and Catherine Crane. She is charged with two counts of first-degree felony murder and one count each of second-degree felony aggravated arson and aggravated assault.Defense attorneys for Kimber asked a judge for time to review a report from the fire marshall that they have not yet received. The judge granted them a day extension and the trial will continue on August

Kimber was expected to enter a plea to reduced charges Wednesday but both prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed to the extra time. Prosecutors say they want to have extra time to have experts read the fire report before deciding whether theyd like to take the plea deal. The report released by the fire marshall, includes findings from a test done by officials that conclude that the fire was flame-set and unlikely to be accidental.

A friend and neighbor of Murrays who was at the trial expressed disappointment in the postponement.I saw her in the window fighting to get out. I called her on my cell phone and she picked up the phone we could hear everything in the background the crackling and everything she wasnt saying anything she said. When some people think of best-hangers, they do sometime think about wire hangers that are made out of metal tooWe wanted to get it all behind us. She should be sentenced today and go to prison but I guess not. Theyre just stalling and stalling and stalling.
